Escape Velocity is a creative project of films and live performance works made by and with young trans and gender non-conforming people in Melbourne in 2019 and 2020.

Created through a partnership between St Martins and Minus18, Escape Velocity is an artistic response to some of the anxieties faced by young people in public space that we’d like to share with you.

Escape Velocity is funded by Creative Victoria’s Future Makers for Change initiative.

Escape Velocity 2

In November 2019, Escape Velocity 2 launches during Trans Awareness Week (12–19 November). This longer, chaptered film, features the young people of Escape Velocity speaking directly about their lived experiences of being trans and navigating public space. The Escape Velocity 2 film has four chapters: I Am Who I AmIt TurnsNo Way To Stop It, and We Are No Different.

“I’m young. I’m trans. I exist. I can be myself. I can define and redefine myself.
